Your work is covered by enterprise protections, and content in UMD’s workspace is not used to train Anthropic’s models.
Benefits of the Claude Enterprise workspace
A substantially larger usage allowance than personal and other non-enterprise Claude accounts and plans.
Access to restricted models once your use case is approved.
Already using Claude? Here’s what to know before you move
If you have an existing Claude account, what migrating into UMD's Enterprise workspace looks like depends on your current account type. See the benefits above for what moving to Enterprise unlocks.
Native migration is for personal Claude accounts that use a umd.edu email address. It moves your chats, projects, and files into UMD's organization, is one-way, and closes your personal account when complete.
You may belong to a Claude Team organization managed by your department or group. Please follow the link below for migration guidance.
Built for the way you work
Claude Enterprise provides a UMD-managed workspace for teaching, research, administrative, and other complex work. It brings together a range of tools and capabilities to support university work, including:
- Claude: drafting, summarizing, and analysis.
- Cowork: multi-step tasks and extended workflows.
- Claude Code: coding and development.
- Projects and file analysis: organizing work and analyzing documents.
- Web search and documents: research and information gathering.
- Enterprise controls: organization-level security and role-based access.
Plans, pricing, and usage
UMD offers two Claude Enterprise subscription tiers. Standard and Premium include the same access to Chat, Projects, Cowork, and Claude Code, with the same models, administration, security, and data controls. Nothing is Premium-only; the difference is how much usage each seat includes.
A starting point for most campus users, including everyday chat and occasional advanced work. Includes Claude, Cowork, Claude Code, Projects & file analysis, and Web search & documents. As an approximate usage reference only (not a guaranteed allowance or feature match), this is roughly 2.5× the usage of a commercial Claude Pro plan ($20/month).
For heavy users running long Claude Code sessions or extended agentic work in Cowork. These workflows use the allowance faster than chat.
How your usage allowance works
Your seat's allowance is not a fixed token quota or guaranteed number of messages. How far it goes depends on the model, conversation length and complexity, effort level, tools, and Claude Code activity.
Session and weekly limits
Five-hour session limit
SessionEach seat has a usage limit for a five-hour session. If you reach it, Claude shows when it resets.
Weekly limit
WeeklyEach seat also has a weekly usage limit. You can reach this limit even if you have room in your current session; Claude shows the reset time.
Check your Claude usage
Open Settings > Usage in Claude to check your usage and reset times. A usage limit controls how much you can use Claude over time.
Understand Claude usage and length limits
When you reach a limit
If you reach a session or weekly limit, check Claude's reset notice and wait for that allowance to reset. Additional directions on checking your limits are covered in the video walkthrough.
If you regularly reach your limits, review whether Premium fits your work and use the Claude request process to request a tier change. Contact DIT AI Services for questions about usage or extra-usage availability.
